Independent Retail Europe and EuroCommerce call on the Commission to propose a legislative solution to eliminate territorial supply constraints and announce this in the forthcoming Single Market Strategy

Independent Retail Europe and EuroCommerce sent a letter to the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling on the Commission to propose a legislative solution to eliminate territorial supply constraints and announce this in the forthcoming Single Market Strategy. EU competition law is not sufficient to tackle territorial supply constraints as it cannot tackle practices unilaterally imposed by companies that are not in a dominant position, which means there is a legislative gap. Independent Retail Europe and EuroCommerce echo the calls of several Member States who have asked the Commission to address this issue as a priority at the Competitiveness Council on 24 May 2024.
