The Directorate-General for Justice (DG JUST) ensures that the European Union is an area of freedom, security and justice. Its mission is to tackle cross-border problems so that citizens and businesses can make full use of the Single Market. DG Justice is responsible for the following issues among others: fundamental rights, consumer and marketing law, product safety, contract law and data protection. DG JUST is headed Věra Jourová, Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality.
In the European Parliament, the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), chaired by MEP Claude Moraes, the Committee for Legal Affairs (JURI), chaired by MEP Pavel Svoboda, and the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), chaired by MEP Anneleen van Bossuyt, are predominantly dealing with justice and consumers related issues.
