Health and Food Law

The Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) – headed by Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis – is responsible for the implementation of European Union laws on the safety of food and other products and on the protection of people's health. Its mission is to make Europe a healthier, safer place, where consumers can be confident that their interests are protected. DG SANTE deals with the following issues: public health, food safety, health and welfare of farm animals and health of crops and forests.

In the European Parliament, the Committee for Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), chaired by MEP Pascal Canfin, as well as the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection, chaired by MEP Petra de Sutter, are responsible for most health and food law related issues.
