  • E-commerce We want our members to be visible online. This means that when thousands of independent retailers are active in a group with a common branding they should be able to have a commonly branded webshop where goods can be sold at one, common, low price.

  • Competition rules Certain types of agreements, such as information exchanges, purchasing agreements, agreements on commercialisation and standardisation agreements are indispensable to the functioning of groups of independent retailers. They have many pro-competitive effects, which undoubtedly benefit consumers.

  • Food waste Groups of independent retailers constitute an important segment of the European groceries retail market. The vast majority of our members are active in the food sector mainly at distribution level although many are active in production/manufacturing as well. Many of them are already actively combating food waste in both traditional and original ways at all levels of their operations. Independent Retail Europe is actively involved in the Commission’s work on food waste, also via the Food Waste Platform.      
  • Better relations in the food supply chain Independent Retail Europe members as the final link in the supply chain, and with direct relations to consumers are affected by the policy outcomes of discussions related to supply chain behaviour, notably the Directive on Unfair Trading Practices (UTPs).

  • SME policy Independent Retail Europe member groups are composed of, or provide services to, independent SME retailers. Therefore, it is one of Independent Retail Europe’s priorities to be actively involved in SME policy discussions to ensure that the interests of independent SME retailers are taken into consideration.
  • Future transport and logistics We recognise the need to adapt transport and logistics networks to reduce emissions and promote environmental goals.
